Re: Recon?
Reconstruction, to me, means that they try to reconstruct a view of Heathenry that their ancestors worshiped. I don't feel too kindly on it, because a religion stuck in the past becomes stagnant and poisonous in my opinion. One thing that catches my attention are the Heathens that will dress as the...

Re: Recon?
Reconstructionism is an approach to heathenry. It is not heathenry itself only the tools we use to craft the lenses through which we view the world. I don't feel anything about it though I do have passion for its pursuit.

Re: Taking the Lore literally?
This is why for my kindred sacred drama plays a big role in our religious experiences. Mumming or guising, playing a role of a god during a ritual helps re-establish and re-enforce the thew of my folk.

Re: Taking the Lore literally?
I am from the school of Eliade. From Wiki: 'Mircea Eliade argued that one of the foremost functions of myth is to establish models for behavior[34][35] and that myths may also provide a religious experience. By telling or reenacting myths, members of traditional societies detach themselves from the ...

Re: Taking the Lore literally?
The lore like any good story is mythic. The events take place in a mythic past that informs our present and in turn reshapes the myth. This is not to say that the mythic past is not real as even real life is subjective to the interpretations and embellishments of the observers and relaters of events...

Re: Online Socializing and Fellowship VS REAL LIFE
The internet is great for getting info, honing worldvlew and meeting people. But in the end the goal must be to meet folks in RL. It is impossible to worship as a group over the internet, so in the end having the goal of in-person meetings is the best outlook. Plus, online everyone wants to share th...

Re: The Heathen Worldview
Bathilde How would you describe the heathen worldview? I would say worldviews for one. There was never one unified worldview among heathens. Due to the fact that time and place and many extenuating factors and syncretism on borderzones made it impossible to have a single worldview (actually, I thin...

Re: Creating Community!
This is interesting. Just this past weekend my kindred had a discussion night around rites of passage. We came to the conclusion that two of the most important stages in life, after birth and naming are Self-Reliance around the age of eight, e.g. able to cook and clean in the family home. Then Foste...
