Recent discussion about the reasons for worshipping Loki on the ASHMAIL list prompted me to return to this thread.

It would seems that many ASH do not consider Loki to be a real entity, but more of a character in a story, as a plot device. I'm one of these people. There's no evidence that the Anglo-Saxons knew of Loki, let alone worshipped him, and so I really don't include him in my belief system.

I still have an opinion of him, but it's in the context of a character in a story.

Hmmm... Is this why you told me to check the board, Anna?

I'll have to come up with a good response for this one. Unfortunately, it will all be UPG. I will say this, though: There's a reason why I have him as my avatar on here, and why I don't usually post to the Loki threads.

No, I told you to check the board before I posted in this thread.

GOOD JOB BEING LATE TO THE PARTY.

Some people seem to view him as a misunderstand trickster, others see him as the sworn enemy of the gods and mankind.

Either way, I don't honor him. I don't see the appeal.

Some Lokeans I have seen on the internet come across as staunch anti-establishment types who just like throwing rocks at polite society.

forgive me for rambling and wandering on this...something I'm working on at the moment....bear with me...

All the gods are aspects of ourselves, and as such each has things to offer......Don't despise Loki he's a useful chap to have on your side (albeit he can't be held for long and if you try you'll get the trickster again)

But

All Gods also have pitfalls for the unwary....they have bounty to bestow...they also have the addiction of that bounty...each is a double edged sword...for example...Woden offers Knowledge of various types especially the arcane...and yet with knowledge may come exceesive pride and from that a way of Wyrd is chosen that has outcomes.

all Gods may be useful but not to be relied upon, and their help carries a price and a negativity (a trap for the unwary) which is to be avoided

sorry as I said I'm still working on this

I see Loki as an essential catalyst, but I don't necessarily worship him (not saying never on that one though..) I've raised a horn with another Heathen who did though, and nothing really terrible happened, so I'm probably going to go with my experience here, and say he's maybe ok, so long as you don't get too close and involved perhaps.

Sounds like a sensible approach.
