What materials do you consider lore and why?

Good question! “Lore” is a tricky term because it can mean different things to different people. I would suggest that it means to Heathens more-or-less what “canon” means to those that follow revealed religions; that is, something like “accepted documents”. Herein one school of thought may accept a work one does not. For example, the works of Rudolf John Gorsleben may be of immense value to Irminen, but will be completely ignored by Théodsmen.
Here's where it all becomes even more murky and mercurial, though: Heathens, unlike our counterparts in the revealed religions, are more than willing to recognize “primary” and “secondary” sources. For example an Ásatrúar might insist that the Snorra Edda is a primary source while only recognizing Saxo's Gesta Danorum as a secondary source (correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe those that practice Firn Sidu would reverse this denotation).
I would suggest that those works failing to even make the grade of “secondary source” would be those works that can no longer be lumped into the canon of “lore”.

from what is ledt to us by the ovezealous of the middle ages Lore seems to me to be a set of firseside tales that guide us along our individual wyrds..
a set of stories which demonstrate the right and wrong ways to live
as such they are not canonical by any means - guidelines only
but then the big beauty of Heathenism is that we don't have (or at least most of us don't) the concept of My god is bigger and badder than yours so I'm going to kill you...we all just stumble along doing what seems right withing a set of "Guidelines" - for correct behaviour (havamal)....and I would say have the courage to stand on our feet, look adversity in the eye and take personal responsibility for actions

are stories told from ancient times without knowing where the origin started and whether it is true or not.
