Just finished The Thrall's Tale for the 2nd time, and now I'm re-reading Deathly Hallows because it's been a while.

The Thrall's Tale is pretty good for an historical fiction, and seems like it was researched fairly well. It starts when Eirik first brings the others over to start settling Greenland, and goes through when the Xtians came in and started causing trouble.

I am reading The Nine Worlds of Seidhr by Jenny Blaine. It is amazingly good. I really enjoy well researched writing. After a certain point I just begin to trust the author when they devote this much effort to painstakingly researching each aspect of their work. Her insight into shamanistic practices in the North is excellent.

I didn't think the North had shamanistic practices. Or maybe my definition of "shamanistic" is different.

I'm pretty sure he means the Northern equivalent of shamanistic practices. Right or wrong, a lot of people refer to Seidhr as shamanistic. I haven't started my research on Seidhr yet, so I have no opinion whether it's an accurate comparison or not, just pointing out what I've noticed others saying.

You make a good point but I would still be wary of calling it shamanistic. I wonder if there's a better word to describe it. shamanism is too remeniscent of new age.

Which is funny, since shamanism isn't New Age at all. Ask any Native American.
